The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 83 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

83

In 2018 and 2019, Casey Filkins of Lake Oswego accounted for 83 touchdowns — rushing, receiving and passing — as he led the Lakers to back-to-back appearances in the OSAA Class 6A championship game.

As a junior, Filkins had 37 touchdowns (28 rushing, nine receiving). In the state final, he had one touchdown receiving and four rushing — including the go-ahead score with 2:38 left in the Lakers’ 34-27 win over Sheldon.

The next season, Filkins rushed for 41 touchdowns, passed for four and caught a pass for another for a total of 46. He accounted for four scores (three on the ground, one passing) in Lake Oswego’s loss in the championship game to Central Catholic.

Filkins was voted by Oregon coaches as The Oregonian/OregonLive Class 6A offensive player of the year after his junior and senior seasons.
