In an effort to shine a brighter spotlight on Washington high school basketball players, we are introducing our first-ever SBLive Boys Basketball Recruiting Rankings.

Our rankings are compiled by SBLive Basketball Analyst Dan Dickau based on observations and conversations with an extensive network of coaching and media sources across the country. The players have been evaluated through a college recruiting lens and analyzed in four categories: athleticism, ball skills, basketball IQ and upside.

Over the next few weeks we will roll out our Top 25 players in Washington. Here's a closer look at No. 21 on the list, Puyallup point guard Cobi Campbell:

DICKAU'S ANALYSIS

ATHLETICISM: Campbell is not the quickest point guard, but he is quicker than you initially expect. He doesn’t finish above the rim but he is strong through contact with great balance. One of the advantages he holds and uses well is that as a lefty he can keep defenses off balance.

BALL SKILLS: Campbell can really handle it and shoot it. As a left-hander he does a really good job keeping the defense guessing. He has shown the ability to change speeds and directions well, which is necessary as a point guard to get where you want on the floor especially if you aren’t a jet with quickness.

Campbell's shooting ability is what is going to give him a long look to play at the next level. Every team needs a shooter who can space the floor. He has missed time with injuries the last two evaluation periods, but in some late summer and fall AAU games he put up big numbers. One thing I would like to see a bit more is the ability to finish with either hand around the rim.

BASKETBALL IQ: Campbell has a super high knowledge of the game. It must be in the family! His father, Scott, is his coach at Puyallup and his uncle, Mark, is an assistant coach for the University of Oregon women's team. You can tell in watching him play that he knows the game, especially in the way he sets things up for himself and his team.

UPSIDE: This is a tough category to evaluate because he has been injured much of the last two evaluation periods and hasn’t had a chance to put his best foot forward in front of college coaches.

When healthy, Campbell has shown he can lead a team and can really shoot it. With his understanding of the game and his ability to shoot it I would imagine he would provide value to a college program. I'm looking forward to seeing where his recruitment may go.
