Kwame Evans Jr., nation's No. 2 overall prospect, visiting Oregon Ducks this weekend

2023 Montverde Academy star Kwame Evans Jr. is making his trip to Eugene as scheduled

The Oregon Ducks men's basketball program is off to a strong start in the 2023 recruiting cycle, but will have a chance to impress its potential headliner this weekend.

Having already secured AZ Compass Prep five-star small forward Mookie Cook, the nation's No. 5 overall prospect, and West Linn (Oregon) point guard Jackson Shelstad, a top-60 prospect, Dana Altman would love to make it a trio.

Montverde Academy (Florida) five-star power forward Kwame Evans Jr., the nation's No. 2 overall prospect, is visiting Oregon this weekend and is slated to arrive Friday.

The 6-foot-9, 200-pound athlete has already trimmed his list to a final five of Auburn, Indiana, Kentucky, Oregon and UCLA.

But Oregon has picked up a few predictions in its favor heading into Evans' official visit.

That's something Cook would love: a pairing of two of the top-five prospects in the 2023 class heading to Eugene.

And he made sure Evans is aware of that potential, mentioning it to him when the duo faced one another at GEICO Nationals earlier this month.

“I told him when I walked by him, I said, ’We got to get that done, man.’ That would be a big, big pickup,” Cook said on “Recruiting with Andrew Nemec” on 1080 The FAN. “He’s a great player. … He can pretty much do everything. He can pop, he can finish inside, he can guard one through four, one through five at 6-10. He’s got actually fast feet. He’s agile. So that would definitely be a great pick-up.”
