No program in the Pac-12 Conference has closed out the week quite like the UCLA Bruins.

A day after securing the commitment of Roderick Robinson II, the top running back in California, Chip Kelly's program landed another key in-state piece.

On Friday evening, Mater Dei Catholic High School defensive standout Tre Edwards, the nation's No. 6 linebacker, announced his commitment to UCLA over fellow finalists Arizona, California and Oregon:

"I didn't see why I would wait when UCLA felt like home to me," Edwards said. "I knew that school was the one - even if another school did come in, I'd choose UCLA over all of them."

Edwards and Robinson are the two highest-rated pledges in UCLA's 2023 recruiting class so far.

For the 6-foot-2, 218-pound 'backer his official visit on May 20 sealed the deal on his recruitment.

"My official visit was amazing," Edwards said. "Being able to talk to the coaches, hang out with the players, you could really feel the culture there. You can feel the change in culture. The locker room is full of like-minded guys and everybody is on the same page."

The in-state 'backer believes that feeling will translate with a program-altering recruiting class this cycle.

"I'm very excited," Edwards said. "I'm trying to get other guys to come with me. I think this class could really change the game at UCLA."

Here's what 247Sports national recruiting editor Brandon Huffman had to say about Edwards as a prospect:

"Edwards is a stout run stopper, able to fire through gaps and stop the running back in the backfield. Can bring the heat to a quarterback too. Shows plus instincts and athleticism. Physical backer, a sure tackler who will end plays on first contact. Solid in pass coverage and can move fluidly in space. A three-down backer with his ability to make plays against the run and the pass."
