Maize High School (Kansas) quarterback Avery Johnson is quickly become an in-state legend.

The nation's No. 2 dual-threat quarterback accumulated offers from Auburn, Florida State, Notre Dame, Oregon, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and others.

But in July, Johnson elected to stay home and committed to Kansas State

Since that time, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound signal-caller's stock has continued to soar.

On Friday night - with Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman in attendance despite having a road game Saturday - Johnson added to his legacy with a stunning performance.

The bluechip quarterback threw for 381 yards and four touchdowns with an additional 158 yards and three scores on the ground.

Maize needed every bit of it, pulling out a 52-51 win over Derby.

Check out some of the highlights:

Kansas State's 2023 recruiting class is ranked No. 38 nationally, and Johnson is the unquestioned headliner.

The Wildcats have found themselves an absolute gem.
