Brayden Platt, top 2024 recruit in Washington, narrows list to two, sets commitment date

Four-star linebacker to decide between Oregon, Oklahoma. Does one have an edge?

One of the nation's top linebackers in the Class of 2024 has set an early September commitment date.

Yelm (Washington) four-star Brayden Platt will choose between Oklahoma and Oregon in a Sept. 4 announcement - the date of his mother's birthday - 247 Sports' Brandon Huffman reported on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Platt is the nation's No. 8 linebacker, No. 73 prospect overall and the top prospect in the state of Washington in 2024.

He led Yelm to its first Washington state football championship in 2022 as a junior and one of the nation's best overall athletes. He's also a two-time state shot put champion.

He took unofficial visits to Oklahoma and Michigan State in April, then took official visits to Oklahoma and Oregon in June before narrowing his choices down to those two.

Platt has developed a tight connection with Oregon coach Dan Lanning and his staff. Lanning attended Yelm's state championship parade in June after Platt led the program to its first-ever title.

"It meant a lot to me like him as a head coach taking time out of his day coming out to support, it meant a lot," Platt told SBLive at Elite 11 in April

He also weighed in on the impact of Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables, a coach that has bolstered the Sooners' defensive approach.

"Coach V coming back, bringing back the culture he had, that really means a lot," Platt said in April. "That definitely means a lot to me and being a linebacker and him being able to see me, picture me in all the different positions and develop me, really means a lot."

Platt was SBLive's Washington Two-Way State Player of the Year and has been one of the best linebackers in the state since his breakout sophomore season. As a junior, he helped Yelm win its first WIAA Class 3A state championship.
