Keona Wilhite decommits from Washington; Huskies lose 4-star edge-rusher

Salpointe Catholic four-star edge-rusher Keona Wilhite announced his decommitment Sunday

The fallout from Kalen DeBoer's departure from the Washington Huskies to the Alabama Crimson Tide continues to build.

On Sunday, Salpointe Catholic (Arizona) four-star edge-rusher Keona Wilhite announced his decommitment.

"Please respect the decision I have made," he posted to social media. "After much discussion and pray(er) with my family I have decided to decommit from (Washington). I want to thank the UW community for all the love and support. With that said I am officially reopening my recruitment."

Wilhite signed a National Letter of Intent during December's early signing period, but will likely seek a release and should be able to choose a new school without an NCAA "penalty." 

The 6-foot-5, 240-pound edge-rusher was a significant addition for the Huskies in October, as he flipped from the Arizona Wildcats. 

Wilhite also held offers from Arizona State, BYU, Colorado, Nebraska, Oregon State, UCLA and others. 

He is the second major Arizona addition to depart from the program, leaving alongside All-American Bowl edge Noah Carter, out of Centennial (Arizona).

Washington's 2024 recruiting class was ranked No. 30 nationally after the early signing period, but would drop significantly if Carter and Wilhite can't be brought back into the fold.
