When is a commitment video not a commitment video?

El Campo High School (Texas) running back and five-star recruit Rueben Owens provided an answer to that question Monday when he tweeted out a "commitment video."

While the video begins as a tease for his commitment, it switches abruptly to a clip from Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants," in which Squidward proclaims, "I was just kidding. Come on. Come on. You guys know I was just kidding, right?"

Owens is rated the nation's No. 1 running back and No. 17 overall prospect by 247Sports.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound back is rumored to be favoring the Texas Longhorns, but fresh off an unofficial visit to check out the Michigan State Spartans, it's difficult to say which fanbase was more likely to get excited by the post.

Owens is certainly one of the top uncommitted prizes in the class of 2023.

And despite a promising social media post, he isn't ready to come off the board just yet.
