Aledo edges Denton Guyer in Texas high school football showdown
Aledo and Guyer put on a show.
The matchup between the Bearcats and Wildcats what was expected to be one of the best high school football games in the Lone Star State this week, and it certainly lived up to the hype.
Aledo (2-0) won 48-45 over Guyer (1-1), as junior Cole Crawford kicked a game-winning field goal from 21 yards out as time expired. Sophomore running back Raycine Guillory led the Bearcats with four rushing touchdowns in a game where the lead was exchanged eight times.
Aledo entered the matchup at No. 6 in the SBLive Texas Power 25 rankings, while Guyer came in at No. 13 in the state.
After Guillory took a handoff five yards for a touchdown, his fourth and final score of the night, Guyer responded quickly. Logan McLaughlin (five passing TDs) threw a deep ball to Corbin Glasco for a 64-yard touchdown and then hit Josiah Martin for a two-point conversion to tie the game at 45-45.
However, Guyer left too much time on the clock for TCU commit Hauss Hejny and the Aledo offense, which marched down the field and set up the game-winning field goal for Crawford.
The Bearcats opened their 2023 campaign last week with a 50-35 win over Parish Episcopal, ranked No. 10 in the SBLive Texas Power 25. Hejny threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns and Guillory rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns, as Robby Jones picked up his first win as the Bearcats' head coach.
Aledo is set to host Northwest next week, while Guyer will travel to Lancaster.
