PARKLAND - Rod Tripp's name is said with such reverence around Franklin Pierce High School, you'd have to wonder if he would ever be knocked off his scoring-mark throne.

Well, it happened Friday night.

Senior guard John John Barbee, the son of Cardinals' coach John Barbee, sank a right-baseline leaner with 2:07 remaining in the first half in a loss to No. 7 White River.

The bucket gave him his 15th point of the game. More importantly, it was the field goal that made him the school's new all-time scoring leader.

Tripp had the mark of 1,495 points, set in 1977-79. That bucket pushed Barbee to 1,496.

The game was stopped so the crowd in the home gymnasium could salute the new scoring king. He finished the game with 29 points, and now currently sits at 1,510.
