WIAA 2A football state championship: Anacortes rolls by Tumwater, captures first title
SEATTLE – For the second consecutive day for a school in the state of Washington, the team that wore purple took down the team that wore green to improve to 13-0.
This time around, it was the second-seeded Anacortes Seahawks dismantling the top-seeded Tumwater Thunderbirds, 60-30, in the WIAA Class 2A state championship at Husky Stadium.
Anacortes' 60 points was the most ever scored in a 2A title game.
The Seahawks handed the Thunderbirds their first loss of the season to cap off an undefeated season of their own at 13-0 and their first state title in program history.
After a touchdown on Tumwater's opening drive, the Seahawks scored 34 unanswered points and took a 34-6 lead into halftime.
Tumwater's offense finally found some rhythm in the second half, but the Thunderbirds had no answers for the Anacortes offense, unable to get them off the field.
