Dodgers News: Bobby Miller Reacts to 'Unacceptable' Performance Against Cubs

The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered their third loss of the season Friday, when they fell 9-7 to the Chicago Cubs. The loss came during their first road game since a two-game series against the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea.

The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but a disastrous second inning ultimately cost the Boys in Blue the win. After not scoring any runs during the top of the second inning, the Dodgers gave up five runs to the Cubs in the bottom of the inning. The Dodgers would score three more runs in the fifth and another two in the seventh, but the Cubs got one run in the third and three more in the sixth to earn the win.

For Dodgers starting pitcher Bobby Miller, this was a significant dropoff from his first start of 2024, a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, when he allowed just two hits, no runs and struck out 11 batters in six innings. This time, Miller lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing four hits, five earned runs and two walks while striking out just three batters. He took accountability for the second inning struggles after the game.

“Second inning was just pretty unacceptable,” Miller said, via SportsNet LA. “Just didn’t feel the best out of the stretch today. But no worries. Next bullpen I’m just going to do a ton of work out of the stretch and treat it game-like, like I always do, and move onto the next.”

Along with Miller's struggles, Michael Grove gave up three earned runs to the Cubs. With another solid hitting day from the Dodgers' lineup, including a home run from Shohei Ohtani, it was disappointing to see the team's run prevention struggle behind one of its most promising young pitchers.
