Did a Former Rookie of the Year Hint at Signing With the Dodgers?

Maybe he was just showing off a nice hat.

On Thursday, former American League Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis posted a video of himself in a white Dodger hat on Instagram. Possibly he was hinting at his next destination, or maybe he wanted to display a sleek hat.

Either way, rumors started circling that maybe the Dodgers bring Lewis into the organization and try to tap into his talents.

Lewis, 28, won the award during the shortened 2020 season. That year, he slashed .262/.364/.437 with 11 home runs in 58 games. Since then though, he has dealt with injuries and hasn't lived up to his promise.

In the following three years, he has only played in 70 games with a 75 OPS+. He spent most of that time on the injured list dealing with a knee injury. How much that affects his ability to play in the outfield is unknown.

If the Dodgers do bring him in, it'll be on a minor-league deal to see how much he has left in the tank. The Dodgers did something similar last year when they brought in Jason Heyward on a minor-league deal.

It's been a steep decline for one of the league's more promising, young players. Maybe the Dodgers can tweak something to get him to return to form — first, they need to actually sign him, though.
