Dodgers Offseason: LA Insider Shuts Down Aroldis Chapman Rumors
The closer position gave the Dodger fits all season long in 2022. It boiled over so much that by the time the postseason came around, the team decided to leave their regular season closer off the roster, altogether. Now Craig Kimbrel is in Philadelphia, and the Dodgers still technically don't have that true closer.
Aroldis Chapman has excelled throughout his career at being a shutdown guy in the ninth inning. At the height of his career, Chapman recorded an ERA as low as 1.01.
Last season, however, Chapman finished with a career-worst 4.46 ERA. Naturally, with the lack of a closer, and the proven abilities of Chapman, the Dodgers were linked to him this week.
However, those initial reports have been shutdown by Dodgers insider Mike DiGiovanna. Not only have reports been denied of the Dodgers offering him a two-year deal, it seems the team has shown no interest in him at all.
The Dodgers still have a great bullpen, but no new closer has been addressed with the loss of Kimbrel. Chapman could've been the answer, but it's best the team look elsewhere for help. They may even be best off looking internally, as someone like Daniel Hudson could be a perfect candidate for the role as he returns from a torn ACL.
