Philadelphia Phillies Falter in All Phases, Fall to Giants on Monday

The Philadelphia Phillies fell to the San Francisco Giants on Monday after every phase of their game broke down.

The Philadelphia Phillies placed 14 runners in scoring position Sunday against the Colorado Rockies.

They went 0-for-14 and lost 4-0.

The Phillies placed eight more runners in scoring position Monday against the San Francisco Giants.

They went 0-for-8 and lost 6-3.

Aside from Alec Bohm’s two-run home run, sacrifice fly and three RBI, the Phillies’ offense was punchless.

Philadelphia fell to 20-21 and will look to respond when it battles the Giants again Tuesday night.

It wasn’t just the offense.

Connor Brogdon came out of the bullpen to start and lasted only 2/3 of an inning. Bailey Falter (0-7) then tossed 4 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits and six runs, though all were unearned.

Bryson Stott, who has been Gold Glove worthy at second base, committed his first error in 84 games at second. That error and a dropped fly ball by Nick Castellanos, which was ruled a sacrifice fly, led to the six-run second inning by the Giants.

Andrew Bellatti threw one scoreless inning and Jeff Hoffman tossed two shutout innings to keep the Phillies within striking distance.

Other than that, it was a rather forgettable game for the Phillies.
