NBA Draft: Marquette’s Kam Jones Should Provide Immediate Scoring Punch at Next Level

Now that Marquette has been eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, Kam Jones can turn his attention to the 2024 NBA Draft.

Although the season officially came to an end for Marquette on Friday night, it was a spectacular third season for Kameron Jones and his Golden Eagles. In an upset loss against the NC State Wolfpack, Marquette lost by nine. Jones contributed 20 points, but did struggle from beyond the arc as he converted on just three of his 12 attempts.

Jones’ season is over and may not have ended how he wanted it to, but he can now officially set his eyes on the 2024 NBA Draft. A lethal scorer who has a skillset that should translate at the next level, he’ll likely get first-round consideration if he has a successful pre-draft process.

He scored 66 points in three games during the NCAA Tournament, showcasing the ability to get buckets from all three levels. During the regular season, he posted averages of 17.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per contest while shooting 41.4% from deep on over six attempts. Though streaky at times, he’s developed into a good off-ball mover who can put himself in position to get clean looks from the perimeter.

If he’s going to reach his ceiling at the NBA level, it will take more than just having success as a scorer. Jones has shown flashes of being a facilitator and complimentary passer this season, but produced just four total assists in the tourney. He also was disruptive at times defensively throughout the regular season, but also can find himself out of position at times.

In any case, Jones is a legitimate NBA prospect and will be an interesting name to follow in the coming months.
