• The Alabama volleyball overcame a 2-1 match deficit to notch its first SEC victory of the season (9-4, 1-1 SEC). Junior Doris Carter notched a career-best 22 kills with a .375 hitting percentage, and had 11 digs. Freshman Emily Janek also had a double-double, finishing with 30 assists and 11 digs while also making five blocks. five blocks. No. 2 Texas won the tournament by nine strokes with a 2-under par 838 (283-275-280). Juniors Polly Mack and Angelica Moresco tied for 16th, both finishing the tournament at 1-over par 211.
• Seniors Zhe Zhou and Alexey Nesterov picked up two doubles wins including a victory over No. 37 Marzol/Cloes of South Alabama to close out the Southern Miss Invitational. They both won a singles match as well.
• Junior Moka Ito picked up her second win over a nationally ranked opponent of the fall, and the Crimson Tide went 3-0 in doubles on the final day of the Rice Invitational. Ito topped No. 55 Tatum Rice of Arkansas, 3-6, 7-6(3), 1-0 (10-3).
• Justin Thomas shot a final-round 69 at the PGA Safeway Open to finish tied for fourth. It’s the 45 top-10 finish of his pro career.

September 30, 1961: Looking a little deflated after a season-opening 32-6 win at Georgia Alabama used its defensive might to shut down Tulane 9-0 at Ladd Stadium in Mobile. A 22-yard pass from Pat Trammell to Tommy Brooker accounted for Alabama’s touchdown that was set up by a fumble recovery by Jimmy Wilson on the Greenie 44-yard line. Although Tim Davis missed the extra point, his 24-yard field goal in the third quarter secured the Crimson Tide’s second win of the young season.
