- Per All Panthers, Carolina Panthers coach Frank Reich on Bryce Young practicing with veteran players for the first time and leading the offense: "It was 10/10. I mean, just complete command, control, poise. You could tell the way he was working through progressions. Accuracy in the throw. Ball placement in the throw. It was all very good." At one point the rookie noticed one of the plays on the script was written up wrong and had it corrected.
- Organizers announced that the New Orleans Pelicans will host the Houston Rockets in an NBA preseason game at Birmingham’s Legacy Arena on Oct. 12. Former Crimson Tide standouts Herb Jones and Kira Lewis Jr. both play for the Pelicans.

On This Day in Crimson Tide History:
May 23, 1970: Carney Laslie, an Alabama football tackle in 1930-32 and a member of Coach Paul W. “Bear” Bryant's staffs at Maryland, Kentucky, Texas A&M and Alabama, died of an apparent blood clot at the age of 61. — Bryant Museum
May 23, 2011: The cover of Sports Illustrated featured former Alabama All-American Javier Arenas standing on what was left of his block following the tornado that tore through Tuscaloosa in late April. The story by Lars Anderson inspired him to write the book, The Storm and the Tide: Tragedy, Hope and Triumph in Tuscaloosa, which was published in 2014.
Crimson Tide Quote of the Day:
“Carney (Laslie) meant as much as any one person, particularly back when we were starting and trying to get established. In those days, we worked day and night, but Carney never faltered.” — Paul W. “Bear” Bryant
