Did You Notice?

  • Zach Johnson announced his captain’s picks for the U.S. team for the upcoming Ryder Cup in Italy, which included former Alabama golfer Justin Thomas. The other five were Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa and Sam Burns. Thomas has struggled this season, but Johnson said: “He, without question, has been the heart and soul of Team USA in the Ryder Cup, our emotional leader I would say. I don’t think he would argue with that. He leads by example. ... In my mind, he was born for this and you just don’t leave JT out.” The competition is set for Marco Simone Golf & Country Club outside of Rome, Sept. 29-Oct. 1.
  • Eli Ricks made the Eagles' 53-man final roster. The former Crimson Tide player went undrafted, to the surprise of some, but gave an excellent account of himself in preseason play.
  • San Francisco 49ers tight end Cameron Latu officially went on injured reserve, which means he will not get his first regular season NFL experience in 2023.
  • LaBryan Ray officially made the Carolina Panthers' roster, joining multiple other former Alabama players in Charlotte.

On This Day in Crimson Tide History:

August 30, 1961: Upon hearing that Georgia Tech coach Bobby Dodd recommended teams increase the number of games from 10 to 12 and begin playing two games a year with archrivals, Alabama coach Paul W. “Bear” Bryant endorsed the idea, saying he wanted the season opener as well as the year finale to be with Auburn at Legion Field. "It would be great for the state and a great revenue generator," Bryant said.

August 30, 1977: Shaun Alexander was born in Florence, Ala.

Crimson Tide Quote of the Day:

“If you want to talk [expletive] to the other team, join the [expletive] debate team.” – Nick Saban on his radio show before the 2019 season opener.
