Live Updates: Nick Dunlap in Finals of 123rd U.S. Amateur Championship

For Alabama Crimson Tide sophomore Nick Dunlap, it's a shot at history. The way he's playing, there will almost certainly be more as well.
On Sunday, he'll just be the third player in Crimson Tide history to reach the championship match of the 2023 United States Amateur, joining Michael Thomson (2007 runner-up) and Jerry Pate (1974 champion).
Dunlap will face Neal Shipley, a graduate student from Ohio State, who has also had a scorching summer on the amateur circuit. The match will be over 36 holes at Cherry Hills Country Club in Colo., starting at 9 a.m. CT, with the second 18 beginning at 2 p.m. That's when the Golf Channel will start showing the match from 2-3 p.m., and then hands it over to NBC from 3-5 p.m.
BamaCentral will have updates throughout the day:
Dunlap, 19, out of Huntsville, has an incredible 29-2 record in match-play competition since the spring of 2021. That includes a 6-0 mark en route to the 2021 U.S. Junior Amateur title, 4-1 at the same event in 2002, and five victories this week to advance to the championships.
Along the way this week he eliminated three Southeastern Conference rivals en route to the final match. He topped Gordon Sargent, who is No. 1 in the world amateur rankings (Vanderbilt), in the Round of 64; Jackson Koivun (an incoming freshman at Auburn), in the quarterfinals; and Parker Bell in Saturday’s semifinal (Florida).
Shipley, 22, of Pittsburgh, Pa., earned a come-from-behind, 2-and-1 win over John Marshall Butler, 21, of Louisville, Ky., in the other semifinal. After trailing most of the match, he sealed the victory by nearly holing his third shot on the par-5, island-green 17th hole, and left him with a tap-in for the clinching birdie.
