TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— It's a battle between two teams who made deep postseason runs in 2022 on Sunday night. The No. 17 Memphis Tigers emerge as the toughest test yet for the 3-0 Crimson Tide, ranked seventh in the country and putting a 21-match home unbeaten streak on the line.

Memphis, too, is 3-0, beating Ole Miss in a 1-0 shutout on Aug. 20 and then putting it on Ohio State, 6-1, on Aug. 24. The Tigers have scored 13 goals in total through three games this fall. Both squads have only given up a single goal.

The Crimson Tide finally got its midfield back to full strength in last Thursday's matchup with Lipscomb. That figures to be an important part of the equation, though the back line and goalkeeping have been strong as well.

There's also the matter of offense, which took a step forward for Alabama against Lipscomb with a trio of goals. Isabel Smith showed out with a brace. Gianna Paul added her second of the season. Head coach Wes Hart was pleased with his team's output in the contest.

In college sports, the ranked battles like these early in the regular season can often have implications down the road. It was around this time last season that Alabama's major run started, creating momentum which persists to this day.
