Practice Report: Crimson Tide set to go full pads

Alabama continues to deal with the heat as it preps for first fall scrimmage

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama football team wrapped its four-practice acclimation period on Tuesday, as the Crimson Tide continued to prepare for its first fall scrimmage. 

Alabama was again in shells (shoulder pads), but will be able to don full pads on Wednesday. 

The workout was again in the heat, as the temperature was only 91 degrees but the heat index was 97. 

“It’s going to be hot, regardless," senior defensive lineman Raekwon Davis said was the one thing he's learned about fall camp. "It’s going to be hot so we just have to go out there and go to work.”

As expected there still hasn't been much movement in terms of where players are lining up. Until the first scrimmage, scheduled for Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, that's to be expected. 

However, sophomore cornerback Josh Jobe was in a black non-contact jersey and riding an exercise bike on the sideline. In his absence, one of the players who appeared to be getting more reps was redshirt freshman Jalyn Armour-Davis.

Junior defensive end LaBryan Ray (ankle), tight end Miller Forristall (foot) and redshirt junior cornerback Nigel Knott (medical issues) remain out. Forristall was at practice, but on the sideline. 

Except for the quarterbacks and Jobe, no one else was in a black, no-contact jersey during the media observation period.

Among those watching on the sideline was ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas, the Crimson Tide's guest speaker. He was standing alongside Alabama's basketball coach Nate Oats.
