With the idea of schools doing away with the intersquad scrimmages for spring football, could Alabama have A-Day against a local school in the future?

Alabama's A-Day game is quickly approaching, which means the start of football season all the way until the season ends in January of 2024.

But with the popular idea of the A-Day game becoming a game against another local school gaining traction, we could see an Alabama vs. UAB or Troy spring game in the near future.

There are many reasons to like the idea, such as fans might enjoy seeing two different teams play a somewhat intense game instead of a Crimson vs. White all Alabama affair. Another reason for this type of game is due to ticket prices.

Fans who do not want to pay a premium price for a regular season Alabama game could still have an opportunity to see a preseason game against two teams and check out the Crimson Tide.

On the flip side of the argument, there might be more chance of an injury in a less controlled environment. A-Day in it's current state is essentially a practice for Coach Nick Saban to see players in specific situations and plays.

By changing the format of the game to be a school vs. school exhibition, it might only be a matter of time before a player tries to make a heroic play and ending up out for the year.

With there being a case for both sides of the argument, the idea of a spring game being more the an NFL preseason game might be a good one. But it might all be decided by the one thing that decides everything, money.
