Bama in the NFL: Damien Harris Taken Off Field in Ambulance; 3 QBs Lose in Week 6

Two former Crimson Tide quarterbacks dueled, while a pair of prominent Alabama defenders shined.

NFL Week 6 Recap

  • Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins started slow against the Panthers, with Carolina leading 14-0 after the first quarter. Miami didn't face a deficit for long, though, scoring 35 unanswered points. Tagovailoa threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns, including one to Jaylen Waddle, who had 51 receiving yards. Raekwon Davis had two tackles while Da'Shawn Hand made one in the win. Bryce Young had 217 passing yards and a touchdown in the loss. Despite the Panthers blowing a 14-0 lead, they looked cohesive for most of the first half. Carolina is 0-6 but has potentially laid the groundwork for future success.
  • It was reported pregame that the Patriots would still start Mac Jones, but keep a close eye on him. Jones responded by throwing for 200 yards. He had a pass picked off by the Raiders and also took a safety on the goal-line when he had a chance to win the game. Could the Patriots look to bench the former Crimson Tide signal caller? Running back Josh Jacobs led both teams in rushing with 77 yards in the Raiders win. Byron Young had a tackle for Las Vegas.
  • Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles were the last undefeated team after San Francisco lost Sunday, however the Jets didn't let the Eagles hold that distinction for long, handing them their first loss of the season. Quinnen Williams and C.J. Mosley both were involved in turnovers, with Williams picking off Hurts on a screen pass, and Mosley forcing a fumble. Williams also had two tackles and a pass defended, while Mosley had nine tackles and a pass defended. For the Eagles, Hurts had 280 passing yards, 47 rushing yards, and two total touchdowns. DeVonta Smith had 44 receiving yards. Josh Jobe had three tackles and two passes defended and Eli Ricks had one tackle.
  • The Detroit Lions remained undefeated on the road after beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 20-6. Wide receiver Jameson Williams scored his first touchdown of the season and had two catches for 53 yards. Both Brian Branch (ankle) and Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) missed the game. Isaiah Buggs had one tackle and tipped a pass for another Detroit defender to make an interception.
  • A scary scene unfolded in Buffalo on Sunday night, as Bills running back Damien Harris was taken off the field in an ambulance after suffering a neck injury. Harris was immediately taken to a local hospital for further testing but was able to give a thumbs up before leaving. The Bills went on the beat the Giants 14-9. New York safety Xavier McKinney had six tackles and defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson had one.
Buffalo Bills running back Damien Harris (22) is loaded into an ambulance after an injury in the second quarter against the New York Giants at Highmark Stadium.

NFL Week 6 Preview

  • The Washington Commanders' defensive front hasn't quite lived up to the hype it received all offseason. With three first-round draft picks headlining, including Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne, the Commanders will have their hands full trying to stop Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson. The Commanders are in the bottom 10 in the NFL in rush yards allowed at 668 and rushing first down percentage at 27.9 percent. On the other hand, Robinson is top 10 in the NFL in rushing yards with 364 but doesn't have a rushing touchdown yet.
  • The Texans' defense is led by numerous Alabama players. Henry To'oTo'o leads the team in tackles with 39, Christian Harris is second with 23, and Will Anderson Jr. is fourth on the list with 21. Last week, New Orleans scored more than 30 points for the first time since Week 6 of 2022. DeMeco Ryans' team will look to harass Derek Carr early on, while CJ Stroud and the offense will try to slow a stout Saints pass rush led by Cam Jordan.
  • A pair of Alabama quarterbacks are set to face off against each other on Sunday as the Carolina Panthers travel to Miami to take on the Dolphins. Tua Tagovailoa is in the MVP conversation and is playing for a potential contract extension at the end of the season. The Dolphins offense took a hit as running back De'Von Achane was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury, but Raheem Mostert should be able to answer the call. Jaylen Waddle caught a touchdown last week in the team's win over the New York Giants. Carolina is staring at 0-6 if it can't beat Miami. The run game has struggled and the offensive line has yet to mesh properly. Despite all the negatives, Bryce Young continues to develop and has shown flashes of the quarterback he was at Alabama, including this touchdown pass from last Sunday.
  • Similar to Young and the Panthers, Mac Jones and the Patriots are in a slide. New England, 1-4, is fresh off losing back-to-back games by 30-plus points. Jones and the Patriots will travel to Las Vegas on Sunday for a late afternoon showdown with the Raiders, who had a good rhythm against the Packers in their win on Monday. Josh Jacobs had 68 rushing yards and a touchdown against Green Bay, which has one of the worst rush defenses in the NFL. Jacobs will look to continue his rhythm while facing Christian Barmore and Anfernee Jennings, who is filling in for Matt Judon (elbow).
  • Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are still rolling as one of two undefeated teams. While it's never easy to get a win in the NFL, especially on the road, the Eagles will travel to New York to take on the Jets, who have been dealt an unfortunate hand after losing Aaron Rodgers in Week 1. Landon Dickerson helps man the Philadelphia offensive line and will see a lot of Quinnen Williams and C.J. Mosley in the Jets front seven. DeVonta Smith has not been in tune with the rest of the offense the last couple of weeks, but at any time could be the leading receiver with 100-plus yards and a couple of touchdowns.
