No. 25 Alabama Baseball Suffers Fourth Consecutive Loss in Midweek Action Against South Alabama

No. 25 Alabama Baseball suffers its fourth-straight loss in a home contest against South Alabama.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.— The No. 25 Alabama Crimson Tide (22-11, 4-8) baseball team suffered its fourth consecutive loss on Tuesday night at the hands of the South Alabama Jaguars (18-15, 4-8) 5-4 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

Alabama plated four runs in the bottom of the third inning on two RBI singles by Gage Miller and Ian Petrutz and a two-RBI double by Will Hodo.

“We did a couple good things there, we had four two-out RBI’s in the third which is great, but we just weren’t good enough,” said Alabama baseball head coach Rob Vaughn. “That’s what I really challenged our team after the game is I think we just have a decision to make as we move forward.”

South Alabama scored five unanswered runs on a pair of home runs by Lucas Ismaili in the top of the fourth and Joseph Sullivan in the fifth, a two-RBI double by JG Bell, and an RBI single by Duncan Matthews.

The Crimson Tide had two opportunities late in the game to comeback, the first in the eighth when Ian Petrutz hit a leadoff double and Justin Lebron reached base on a one-out hit by pitch, but both runners were stranded in scoring position. The second chance was in the ninth when Miller hit a two-out single, however TJ McCants struck out to end the game.

Left-handed pitcher Kade Snell made his third start of the year for the Crimson Tide and played in the designated hitter position. On the mound, the junior went 4.1 innings and allowed five hits, two runs (earned), walked two batters, and struck out six. At the plate, Snell went 0-of-3. Jansen Kenty, Coulson Buchanan, Aidan Moza, and Alton Davis II made appearances out of the bullpen.

For South Alabama, right-handed pitcher Zach Stevens got his first start of the year. The freshman allowed four hits and four runs (all earned) in 2.2 innings of work. Danny Diaz, Tyler Smith, Jacob Haley, Logan Wash, Seth Carter, and Gant Starling made appearances out of the bullpen.

“We’ve done some really really great things up to this point and we’ve also done some things really inconsistently up to this point,” said Vaughn. “The test of a really good team and a gritty team is one that can respond when things aren’t going well and we’ll have a heck of an opportunity to do that on Friday night.”
