The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball program had a tumultuous season this past spring as former head coach Brad Bohannon was fired amid a gambling scandal in the middle of the season.

The Crimson Tide still managed a relatively successful season, making the program's first NCAA Super Regional appearance since 2014, thanks in large part to the leadership of assistant coach Jason Jackson

Jackson was honored today by the American Baseball Coaches Association on Wednesday as the Marines National Assistant Coach of the Year for his efforts.

The pitching coach finished the last two months of the 2023 season with a 13-6 record while serving as the interim head coach. The Tide was able to win three SEC series in a row under Jackson's leadership.

Alabama hosted the NCAA Regional round and went 3-0 to advance to the Super Regionals.

The 2023 Crimson Tide pitching staff tied a program record with 593 strikeouts and managed seven shutouts.

Jackson's efforts saw him retained by new head coach Rob Vaughn as his leadership and connection with the student-athletes is invaluable to the future of the program.

"Keeping J.J. here was priority number one and we were able to do that pretty quickly, which was a game-changer for this program," said Vaughn on Monday. "This place would not look the same without him, I can tell you that. So getting him in place was huge."

He was promoted to Associate Head Coach over the offseason and enters his seventh season in Tuscaloosa.
