It had been a decade since Alabama basketball had a player selected in the NBA draft before Collin Sexton was selected eighth overall in 2018.

Now, under the direction of head coach Nate Oats, Alabama has had at least one player drafted every year since 2020, and that streak will continue Thursday night with the 2023 NBA Draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Crimson Tide freshmen Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney are both projected in the first round with Miller looking to become the highest Alabama pick in a draft since Antonio McDyess went second overall in 1995. That was also the last time Alabama had two players taken in the first round.

Most mock drafts have the SEC Player of the Year going No. 2 overall to the Charlotte Hornets or No. 3 overall to the Portland Trailblazers.

Both Miller and Clowney are in Brooklyn for the draft.

To the surprise of the Alabama staff, sophomore forward Charles Bediako kept his name in the draft. Bediako is not projected on many draft boards, but could be a late-round pick. If he does get drafted, it would be the first time Alabama has had three players selected in the same draft in the modern draft era.

For the second straight season, there are only 58 overall picks in the two-round draft because of tampering violations. The San Antonio Spurs have the first pick with the Milwaukee Bucks rounding out the draft with pick No. 58. The 2023 NBA Draft officially begins at 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN.
