Report: Sacramento Kings Signing Keon Ellis to Three-Year Contract

The former Alabama standout earns a standard NBA deal.

After spending his first two seasons both in the G League and NBA for the Sacramento Kings and their affiliate, former Alabama shooting guard Keon Ellis joined the NBA roster on Friday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

"The Sacramento Kings are signing guard Keon Ellis on a new three-year contract, Corey Marcum of EZ Sports Group tells ESPN," Wojnarowski writes. "Ellis had been on a two-way deal and now gets a standard NBA deal after rising from an undrafted player out of Alabama."

This past offseason, Ellis signed another two-way deal with the Kings organization and was set to make a flat rate of half the NBA's minimum salary, equivalent to roughly $560K. It was a one-year contract, which would've made him a free agent at the end of the year. Players on a two-way contract can play a maximum of 50 games with their NBA team in a single season.

However, the 23-year-old has made 29 NBA appearances in 2023-24, including three starts. He's averaging 3.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 11.9 minutes. His hard work and improvement enabled the Kings to give him a standard deal with hopes of him continuing to be a good depth piece.

As a rookie, Ellis joined the Kings on a two-way after not being selected in the 2022 NBA Draft. He appeared in 16 games, averaging 1.5 points and shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.

While with the Stockton Kings in the G League last season, Ellis scored just under 17 points per game and averaged 30 minutes a night, while adding five rebounds and three assists per game to go along with it.

Ellis' best game in the NBA his rookie year came in a Feb. 5 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans, where he posted 10 points in 16 minutes on 3-of-5 shooting from the field.

This story will be updated with the details of his new contract when they're announced.
