19 Things I Noticed in Alabama's 42-28 Victory Over the LSU Tigers

The Crimson Tide made more one-on-one plays than the Tigers did to ultimately seal the win the Bryant-Denny Stadium

The Alabama Crimson Tide played a close game with the LSU Tigers with many stats mirroring one another throughout the evening. Ultimately it was a vey short plays that made the difference as Alabama remains on its quest to win the SEC West.

Here's everything I saw as I rewatched the Alabama 42-28 victory over the LSU Tigers.

1. Alabama takes its traditional first drive sack.

Alabama opens the game with the ball and converts its first third-down but failed its second and put the Tide behind the eight-ball against the nation's No. 1 offense.

  • Snap  1 - 1&10: Tommy Rees dials up a handoff right to Jase McClellan behind a pulling Jaeden Roberts and Seth McLaughlin. McClellan gains three yards but it looks like it could have been more by more patient running, but the offense will always be happy with a positive gain.
  • Snap 2 - 2&7: Jalen Milroe decided pre snap he was going to give Jermaine Burton a chance deep and it's not a bad decision. Burton is one-on-one against Sage Ryan and has a step, The pass is just overshot, resulting in third and long.
  • Snap 3 - 3&7: LSU brings four rushers and drop into zone coverage. Milroe does a fine job staring at Tigers linebacker Omar Speights with Kobe Prentice's over route leaving CJ Dippre open underneath at the sticks for an easy completion.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: A simple handoff to McClellan out of 12 personnel gains 4 yards even after Tyler Booker misses out on his man.
  • Snap 5 - 2&6:Interesting blocking strategy having Dippre on an island while the rest of the OL handles the remaining defenders. Even Kadyn Proctor does well in a one-on-one situation and Milroe likely picks the right choice in Amari NiBlack but he's hit from behind by Bradyn Swinson to force an incompletion.
  • Snap 6 - 3&6: Alabama gets lucky as LSU calls a timeout in a situation that seemed like it was resulting in a Tigers sack.
  • Snap- 7 - 3&6: LSU lines up Harold Perkins Jr. on Proctor and he just wins one-on-one for the sack. Could Milroe have found Dippre up the seam? Potentially but he chooses not to force it and can't escape the pocket and is sacked, bringing up a punt.

2. Jayden Daniels shows how dangerous he is.

Jayden Daniels didn't waste any time, connecting with Malik Nabers for a big touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead in just six plays.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Alabama sends four with Deontae Lawson coming out of the second level. He and Justin Eboigbe nearly get Jayden Daniels, but he slips out and gains seven yards on the scramble.
  • Snap 2 - 2&3: LSU calls a simple inside give with six blockers on six defenders and Logan Diggs gets five yards and a first down.
  • Snap 3 - 1&10: Alabama surprisingly sends seven rushers and Daniels fires a pass into Malik Nabers that is incomplete with Malachi Moore on the coverage. However the Tigers get an "illegal hands to the face" penalty called to move 15-yards in their favor.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Daniels swings a pass out to the short side to the tailback out of the backfield behind blockers. We so often see teams attack Alabama on its edges and it's no different here for a six yard gain.
  • Snap 5 - 2&4: LSU once again hands the ball off as they have six blockers for six defenders in the box out of 11 personnel pistol formation.
  • Snap 6 - 1&10: Nabers burns Moore for a 46-yard touchdown reception and while everyone sees Moore trailing the play the question should be asked, was Caleb Downs in the right position? Regardless, the Tigers take a 7-0 lead after the first two possession exchange.

3. Jalen MIlroe takes matters into his own hands.

After a bit of a dismal first drive effort offensively Jalen Milroe begins to take over. He completes two passes and manages two big runs, including the game-tying touchdown.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Jalen Milroe completes a short pass to Kendrick Law acting as a slider out of the backfield. Laws's athleticism gains a first down after catch.
  • Snap 2 - 1&10: JAM Miller saw second team action and this seems like a run action we've seen a lot, but with personnel mixed up. 12 personnel and Law acts as the lead blocker and Miller gains four yards.
  • Snap 3 - 2&6: JC Latham is beat inside pretty quickly and Milroe scrambles out of the pocket for 11-yards.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Tommy Rees anticipates what the defense will be and Milroe reads the zone coverage perfectly hitting Kobe Prentice as Jermaine Burton runs a clear-out.
  • Snap 5 - 1&10: Milroe fakes the handoff and runs 23-yards around the left side for a touchdown. Nice blocking from sometimes spotty blockers this year in Burton and Amari Niblack. The Alabama QB outruns the safety to tie the game back up.

4. LSU gambles on fourth down and Malachi Moore gets even

Brian Kelly probably feeling the pressure to stay one-score up on the Crimson Tide decided to go for it on fourth down in his second drive of the game and just a slight improvement on timing might have seen the Tigers convert.

  • Snap 1- 1&10: Jayden Daniels makes a quick decision to throw to Kyren Lacy and the ball falls incomplete. It's hard to tell if Lacy just dropped it or if Terrion Arnold forced the incompletion.
  • Snap 2 -2&10:  The Tigers go empty set and Daniels calls his own number on a draw for 24-yards. Alabama should always be conscious of QB-run in empty, but for some reason they haven't been a lot of the year.
  • Snap 3 - 1&10: Logan Diggs takes a handoff and earns a tough three-yards.
  • Snap 4 - 2&7: LSU false start due to the Bryant-Denny Crowd.
  • Snap 5 - 2&12: LSU burns a timeout due to the Bryant-Denny Crowd.
  • Snap 6- 2&12: Daniels is contained in the pocket but not pressured. Caleb Downs and Jaylen Key give it up to force the incompletion and Key comes up hurt.
    • I wonder if this injury becomes a blessing in disguise in the second half. You'll notice that Arnold plays Star in the second half and Trey Amos enters the secondary while Kristian Story, who replaces Key the rest of the half, returns to the bench. Additionally moving Malachi Moore from Star to deeper safety is a little easier way to keep him from getting beat one-on-one by Nabers in the slot.
  • Snap 7  - 3&12: Daniels finds Mason Taylor on the check down and Kristian Story forces him out of bounds right at the line to gain.
  • Snap 8 - 4&1: Did the low snap from center to Daniels throw off the timing of this play just enough? Malachi Moore, who was beat on the TD pass on the last drive, closes on Brian Thomas Jr. just enough and breaks up the fourth down pass to get a big stop.

5. Alabama Tush Push Takes the Lead

The Alabama offense seemed to grasp that this was a big moment in the game, a chance to take the lead for the first time.

  • Snap 1- 2&3: The TV copy missed the first down play in the turnover. Jalen Milroe misses another deep shot over the top of the defense, this time to Amari NiBlack.
  • Snap 2 - 3&3: Here's a fun look from Alabama - three tight ends, Niblack, CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts. Alabama runs a toss behind them and Kadyn Proctor, who takes out three Tigers to keep the drive going.
  • Snap 3 - 1&10: The first down run with Jase McClellan doesn't work as well here as Proctor is knocked into the backfield. Still a positive play but not as productive.
  • Snap 4 - 2&8: Milroe takes an easy underneath throw to Isaiah Bond who spins and gains a first down. Good, quick decision and accurately thrown ball from Milroe.
  • Snap 5 - 1&10: Milroe with another completion to Bond, this time to a much more difficult location.
  • Snap 6 - 1&10: Milroe runs what looks like a QB-power in the rezone and shows great patience and power for a nice gain on first down.
  • Snap 7 - 2&5: Alabama in three-tight end again and under center. About as obvious of a running formation as possible and JAM Miller gets four yards.
  • Snap 8 - 3&1: The Crimson Tide come out in "Tush Push" formation and run it to perfection. Milroe delayed off to the left and was helped to a 4-yard gain to score and give Alabama the lead.

6. Alabama defense flexes for second stop in a row

Jayden Daniels made some plays, but ultimately the Crimson Tide came away fortunate to force a field goal miss.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10:  LSU gains five yards on a bit of an inside zone handoff. The Tigers opt to hand it off with a lighter box as Dallas Turner is in the apex.
  • Snap 2 - 2&5: Jayden Daniels tucks and runs as soon as he sees Trezmen Marshall take the back out of the backfield. His big gainer moves LSU to midfield.
  • Snap 3 - 1&10: The Alabama front stifles Logan Diggs for a three-yard gain.
  • Snap 4 - 2&7: Alabama only rushes three and drops eight. Daniels finds Malik Nabers down the field after moving out of the pocket to stretch the coverage.
  • Snap 5 - 1&10: LSU gets a little fortunate as Daniels throws the ball off the top of Jaheim Oatis's helmet while aiming for Brian Thomas Jr.
  • Snap 6 - 2&10: Justin Eboigbe has been one of Alabama's most underrated players the season and on this snap throws the LSU tight end into Diggs for a loss.
  • Snap 7 - 3&10: Alabama gets its "Cheetah" package on the field for what looks like the first time in the game. The Tide gets great coverage on the back in and Eboigbe and Deontae Lawson combine on the sack to bring up and force a missed field goal.

7, Alabama wastes a chance to take two-score lead

Alabama doesn't take advantage of the chance it has to step on the Tigers throat as Will Reichard misses his first field goal of the season.

  • Snap 1- 1&10: The Tigers recorded their second sack of the game by bringing a fifth rusher late and flushing Jalen Milroe out of the pocket.
  • Snap 2 - 2&13: Tommy Rees calls this QB-counter looking thing that is very interesting. Milroe's legs were certainly always going to be part of the game plan
  • Snap 3 - 3&8:Alabama's longest pass play of the night was from Milroe to Jase McClellan on this play. A 13-yard shot-put as the defenders closed in resulted in a 42-yard gainer.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Alabama is called for false-start
  • Snap 5 - 1&15: Milroe tries to hit Kobe Prentice out of the slot down the field for a touchdown but once again misses a deep shot.
  • Snap 6 - 2&15: Rees dials up a QB-draw that goes for eight yards, giving the Tide a more manageable third down.
  • Snap 7 - 3&7: Greg Penn III was all over the screen call here and tackled Roydell Williams as soon as he caught the ball.

8. Jayden Daniels burns Alabama with his legs

It doesn't take long for LSU to tie the score again. Just eight plays of Jayden Daniels magic keeps the Bryant-Denny crowd on the edge of it's seat.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Daniels connects with Malik Nabers on an underneath dig route for a first down.
  • Snap 2 - 1&10: Daniels keeps the ball and runs for a short gainer.
  • Snap 3 - 2&5: Kool-Aid McKinstry is playing off coverage and the Tigers take advantage of it with a short stop route.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Alabama brings five with a sixth defender spying Daniels. The LSU quarterback finds Brian Thomas Jr. for an easy completion.
  • Snap 5 - 1&10: Tim Keenan jumps offside
  • Snap 6 - 1&5: Justin Eboigbe makes the LSU running back run the hump and makes the stop for a short loss.
  • Snap 7 - 2&5: Daniels's pass is just behind the running back an incomplete.
  • Snap 8 - 3&5: Nabers runs a short out route for a completion and a first down.
  • Snap 9 - 1&Goal: LSU spreads out Alabama and calls a QB-Draw and Daniels ties the game.

9. Milroe manipulates the Tigers with his legs

With three minutes remaining in the half it's important for Alabama to score and not leave the Tigers with too much time on the clock.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: JAM Miller takes a toss right into the strength of the LSU defense.
  • Snap 2- 2&10: Jermaine Burton creates separation on a short out route and Milroe makes a decisive and accurate throw.
  • Snap 3 - 3&3: Jalen Milroe drops a pass right into Miller's breadbasket. The ball was at risk of being defended by Harold Perkins but wasn't and Miller runs for a big gainer.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Milroe's decisiveness in this game so far has been the difference. Even on passes he's missed. Once again he makes a quick decision and scrambles for a four-yard gainer.
  • Snap 5 - 2&6: This was probably a decision that Milroe wished he could have back as he forced a pass into the end zone, looking for Kobe Prentice. Prentice was covered up and Milroe looked at him the whole way, making this a risky decision.
  • Snap 6 - 3&6: Alabama called for a false start
  • Snap 7 - 3 &11: LSU rushes four and Milroe scrambles out of the pocket for a 13-yard gain.
  • Snap 8 - 1&10: The Tigers again just rush four and make it easy for Milroe to get out of the pocket. He has a wide open Isaiah Bond that he misses for a touchdown. Good decision, bad execution.
  • Snap 9 - 2&10: Tommy Rees runs Milroe on a QB-power with lead blockers and while it doesn't go for huge yardage, you love giving the LSU defense something else to think about.
  • Snap 10 - 3&9: Milroe escapes the pocket in similar fashion to the first down play and instead of throwing it, he runs in for the touchdown to take the Tide up by seven.

10. Worst end of half drive by the Tide

Alabama had to keep LSU off the scoreboard for just one minute and had 75-yards worth of cushion behind them, but that was too much to ask.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Tim Keenan makes the LSU running back run the hump and ends up making the tackle for a short gain.
  • Snap 2 - 2&9: Jayden Daniels and his receiver are on two different pages and the pass falls innocently incomplete.
  • Snap 3 - 3&9: Daniels escapes the pocket and busts a 40-yard run. Dallas Turner has a shot at him in the backfield but its unable to make the play. Kristian Story is all turned around as well.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: False start on LSU
  • Snap 5 - 1&15: Daniels busts another big run and gets out of bounds as he shows how elusive he is.
  • Snap 6 - 1&1: Daniels finds Kyren Lacy for a touchdown pass over the middle. Story goes to break up the pass but is unsuccessful. Had he instead played for the tackle the Crimson Tide would have likely gone into the locker room with a lead.

11. Alabama stuck in the locker room

The Tigers took advantage of their opportunity to double-dip and scored on its opening drive of the second half, proving they had no intention of going away.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Logan Diggs takes a simple handoff as the Tigers have five blockers for five defenders.
  • Snap 2 - 2&6: Jayden Daniels works a route at the sticks but his receiver can't hold onto the football.
  • Snap 3 - 3&6: Alabama has moved Terrion Arnold now to star on this drive as that matches up more with Malik Nabers, additionally brining in Trey Amos on the outside and pulling Kristian Story to the bench. This time the LSU slot receiver just runs a slant in front of Arnold and catches and runs for a first down. Alabama was brining five to keep Daniels contained but he found the right matchup.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: LSU tries a swing pass out wide but Arnold blows it up to set the Tigers behind the chains.
  • Snap 5 - 2&10: This is just a genius play by Daniels here. First, Alabama brings pressure and it looks like Tim Smith is held on the bottom side and Tim Keenan can't hold contain on the top side. Daniels sees Malachi Moore read the play that seems like it's designed to go to the bottom as a bit of an option, Dallas Turner is over there as well, he bounces around Keenan for a first down run. Impressive.
  • Snap 6 - 1&10: There's a reason Daniels and Nabers have been putting up crazy numbers this year, and a reason why Nick Saban preached all week 'play the next play'. Moore played Nabers pretty well using the sidelines but it was just a perfect throw and catch and all Alabama's defense can do is play the next play.
  • Snap 7 - 1&10: LSU slows it down and makes you respect the run with a little four-yard carry up the middle.
  • Snap 8 - 2&6: QB Draw all the way once again is dangerous against the Tide in the red zone. It's the third time they've gone draw during the game for a first down.
  • Snap 9 - 1&Goal: LSU goes into a four tight-end formation and cashes in a touchdown. Kool-Aid McKinstry's run angle was very poor and the tailback bounced outside of him to put the Tigers up.

12. Alabama hammers back to even.

What I like about this drive is, much like the second drive of the first half, when Alabama was down by one-score to LSU and has to answer, the Tide took care of the football and called largely high-percentage plays in order to maximize its possession.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Jalen Milroe looks like he may have missed a give read to Jase McClellan but still made something out of it for five yards.
  • Snap 2 - 2&5: The stays on schedule with a four-yard McClellan run, but a better block from Kadyn Proctor sees this snap go for three-to-five yards more.
  • Snap 3 - 3&1: Alabama's "Tush Push" variant. The Tide scored in the "Tush Push" formation earlier in the game and thus everyone's packed in to stop it. Instead it becomes a handoff to JAM Miller around the end with blockers.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Milroe almost gets into trouble with another deep pass missed. He's clearly trying to give Jermaine Burton a shot to make a play but he's single covered with safety help over the top and the quarterback eyes him all the way. Milroe's pass comes in at a strange angle for all three players and the Tide lines up for second down.
  • Snap 5 - 2&10: Alabama goes empty and Milroe see's the simulated pressure by LSU and the line holds up. Unfortunately his pass to Isaiah Bond is knocked down by a linebacker, otherwise there's no telling how far the speedster would go with the ball.
  • Snap 6 - 3&10: LSU fakes like they'll bring six but only rush four on third and long. Proctor guides his defensive end wide almost into JC Latham's assignment. Milroe sees the gap and takes off as the Tigers defense has dropped deep into their zones. Can Amari NiBlack show some awareness in the open field? Milroe is six-yards behind him on the play and finishes four-yards ahead of him without the tight-end blocking anyone. He sort of impeded Greg Penn III I suppose.
  • Snap 7 - 1&10: The motion to Isaiah Bond moved Omar Speights out of his hole and allowed Roydell Williams to rip off a big eight-yard gain on first down. The usage of Bond or Kendrick Law in that spot has now become something defenses have to respect and it gives the Tide running backs a big chance to get into the second-level quickly as seen here.
  • Snap 8- 2&2: This play is not so much schematic, but just a beautiful play on film as Jaeden Roberts whips his man with JC Latham and Seth McLaughlin sealing off the hole as well. Roberts knocks is man into the second-level and Williams rips off a big gainer.
  • Snap 9 - 1&10: Once again the motion with Bond from the bottom of the screen to the top opens up big holes in the LSU defense. First notice the safety cheat pre-snap and then notice their inside linebacker cheat post-snap and make himself very lockable for Roberts. Give Williams credit for this TD-run as he skips past Harold Perkins and through the middle of the LSU defense to re-tie the game.

13. Arguably the moment the game changed.

It's certainly easy to overlook a three-yard reception as a game-changing play, but in a moment where the Alabama defense had been on its heels, looking for answers this may have been the drive that turned the game for good.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Jayden Daniels is a great athlete and sometimes they make plays. Daniels catches Justin Eboigbe going inside the tackle and escapes the pocket. From the TV angle things look covered that leaves Deontae Lawson to chase him down. Unfortunately Daniels jukes Lawson and gains nine-yards. The bigger issue for Alabama is Lawson is now shaken up on the play with no word on when he could return. The last interesting thing to note is Dallas Turner enters to make a big hit on Daniels to finish the play off.
  • Snap 2 - 2&1: Alabama is run-blitzing and the Tigers don't get a first down thanks to Caleb Downs sliding into the backfield.
  • Snap 3 - 3&1: The Tigers get into double tight-end and get the first down with a handoff to Logan Diggs.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: The Tigers run their traditional almost "triple-option" concept where the ball is optioned to Diggs first. Daniels pulls it and passes it to the slider, in this case Mason Taylor. What makes this the game changing play in my opinion isn't just that it results in second and seven, but it represents a culmination of Alabama grasping responsibilities and thus putting the clamps on the LSU offense. Caleb Downs tracks Taylor across the formation and tackles him for a three yard gain. As the game is still tied and the Tigers still, arguably, having momentum, meant this simple stop was indicative of a Crimson Tide chance to turn the tables.
  • Snap 5 - 2&7: Daniels escapes and runs, but the play is called back for holding. Turner makes his presence felt as he earns a holding call, preventing another long scramble for the LSU quarterback. As the night continues it seems that's their primary source of offense, but the holding call sets the Tigers way behind.
  • Snap 6 - 2&17: Alabama only rushes four and drops into a zone behind it. Daniels does a good job buying enough time and finding Taylor for what would have resulted in a third and short, however the LSU tight end simply drops the pass.
  • Snap 7 - 3&17: Daniels checked down to Taylor who doesn't gain much. The sequence results in the Tigers first punt of the game. It's doesn't feel definitive yet, but it does feel like a momentum shifter in the stadium.

14. Love the sense of urgency up front

In six-plays the Crimson Tide flew down the field to gain the lead back. The offensive aggression up front, combined with the systematic approach to take what the defense was giving in the passing game was impressive to watch.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Jalen Milroe hits Jermaine Burton on an underneath hitch. LSU has been playing off coverage all evening, making this an easy, quick decision and Burton makes the most of it with a little run-after-the-catch.
  • Snap 2 - 1&10: Roydell Williams rips off a 16-yard carry as Omar Speights appears to be late reading the play. Jaeden Roberts paves the way and leaves Williams one-on-one to make a big gain.
  • Snap 3 - 1&10: Milroe appeared to read Bradyn Swinson off the edge and correctly keep the ball. He uses his speed to get around the edge for six-yards.
  • Snap 4 - 2&4: Just like the first snap of the drive, Isaiah Bond's man is playing him eight-yards off the line of scrimmage. Bond catches the hitch that's just on-time and runs for more yardage.
  • Snap 5 - 1&10: This looks like RPO to the bottom where Milroe is choosing to pull and pass to Bond. The ball isn't nearly as crisp as it needs to be in these situations and Kobe Prentice has a pretty poor block.
  • Snap 6 - 2&5: This looks like what LSU had been running all night with it's three options. Milroe doesn't give to Jase McClellan or dump off to Prentice in close quarters. Instead he tucks and runs it himself for an 11-yard score to give Alabama the lead.

14. Terrible Tiger Turnover

Ok, don't want to believe me that a three-yard completion on first and 10 on the last drive was the game-changing play? Well can I see you on an interception? Jayden Daniels who'd been playing well ends up with some bad luck as the Tigers turn the ball over in their own part of the field.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: LSU's Josh Williams had himself a fine night and it continued on this first down carry. Brian Kelly and Jayden Daniels seemed content all evening to run on Alabama when the numbers in the box were even or in the Tigers favor.
  • Snap 2 - 2&3: Snap infraction on the center. Credit the Bryant-Denny Stadium crowd.
  • Snap 3 - 2&8: Daniels wants to throw a slant to Brian Thomas Jr. against Kool-Aid McKinstry. Thomas Jr. is open on the play but Dallas Turner jumps and tips the ball into the air and Terrion Arnold makes a game-changing interception. Had the pass gotten past Turner it would have likely resulted in a first down, but Turner ensure's he's part of another big-time moment for the Tide this year. The back angle shows how quickly Daniels makes his decisions in the pocket and how impressive it is for Turner to stop his rush and get a hand on the pass.

16. Championship teams make you pay for your mistakes.

Nick Saban at the beginning of the year said he didn't know if this team had the talent to win a championship, but in this instance the Crimson Tide put it's championship hat on and made the LSU Tigers pay for their mistake but cashing the interception in for a touchdown.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Alabama called for false start
  • Snap 2 - 1&15: It looks like the Tide stayed in the same call out of the same formation and it resulted in a one-yard carry as a linebacker shot a gap.
  • Snap 3 - 2&14: A wrinkle that's been worked into the offense is the pop-pass to Kendrick Law or Isaiah Bond. The threat of it has opened holes for the running back so far in this game but in this case Law gets it and runs for nine-yards.
  • Snap 4 - 3&5: LSU brings five rushers and Harold Perkins gets to Jalen Milroe for a sack. This would have been a huge win for the Tigers, except Perkins is called for a horse collar tackle. While it's not the traditional horse collar from behind, Perkins does have his hands indie Milroe's shoulderpads, thus the Tide gets a first down.
  • Snap 5 - 1&Goal:  The Alabama offensive line goes to work here, springing Jase McClellan for one of his easiest touchdowns. Start with JC Latham, he comes off the line and helps Jaeden Roberts on the defensive lineman. Latham then comes off the double and occupies the linebacker in the second level. Tyler Booker and Robbie Ouzts come around pulling off the line and both cream their assignment. All McClellan has to do is follow them into the end zone to put the Tide up two scores.

17. Jayden Daniels goes out with injury.

With the Tigers trailing by two scores and just under a quarter remaining Brian Kelly's squad needed to play nearly perfect. Unfortunately their only hopes of doing that were knocked out on a Dallas Turner quarterback-hurry. The Tigers endured another pre-snap penalty on a fourth down attempt and ultimately punted, theoretically conceding the game with their Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback knocked out of the contest.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Dallas Turner beats Will Campbell with an inside pass-rushing move and forced Jayden Daniels to throw the ball early to Malik Nabers. Turner is called for roughing the passer, likely due to his helmet hitting Daniels in the head. LSU fans and supporters have called for Turner to have been ejected due to targeting and there's an argument to be made. However on a bang-bang play it's hard to call Turner's hit "dirty" or "malicious" as some have suggested. Daniels is removed from the game and the Tigers are forced to play Garrett Nuessmeier.
  • Snap 2 - 1&10: Alabama only rushes three and Nuessmeier finds Brian Thomas Jr. for a short gain.
  • Snap 3 - 2&5: False Start on LSU
  • Snap 4 - 2&10: Nuessmeier's pass is too far out in front of Logan Diggs.
  • Snap 5 - 3&10: Alabama brings four and Nuessmeier's pass is too high for Malik Nabers.
  • Snap 6- 4&10: LSU was lined up to go for it but a false start forced the Tigers to punt.

18. Alabama anaconda chokes LSU out

Alabama didn't score after Jayden Daniels left with injury, but the Tide did real off a 12-play drive that melted nearly eight minutes off the clock to ensure the home team kept its advantage.

  • Snap 1- 1&10: Tyler Booker continues to be a menace as he leads the way for Roydell Williams.
  • Snap 2 - 2&6: Seth McLaughlin picked a fun time to have an early-snap, but Jalen Milroe handled it. The quarterback took a busted play for a gain of three-yards.
  • Snap 3 - 3&3: Alabama goes empty, presumably in order to give Milroe the most options. He chooses to throw the slant to Jermaine Burton and he fits it right into the key hole for a Crimson Tide first down.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Hard to tell if this is an option or a called QB-run but LSU ends up playing it well and leaving Milroe with minimal gain.
  • Snap 5 - 2&8: Jaeden Roberts is beat off the line, but luckily Jase McClellan still outruns Jordan Jefferson for a short gain.
  • Snap 6 - 3&5: LSU brings a late fifth-rusher. Likely to keep Milroe in the pocket but instead the Alabama signal-caller scoots right up the middle and runs for a first down.
  • Snap 7 - 1&10: McClellan takes a handoff for a short gainer off the left side to keep the clock rolling.
  • Snap 8 - 2&6: Alabama moves the ball so well out of 12 personnel, in particularly when McClellan can build a head of steam as he does here. The running back runs for a first down to melt more clock.
  • Snap 9 - 1&10:McClellan is clearly the most trustworthy back as he's out there while Saban is trying to kill off the clock.
  • Snap 10 -2&7: Roydell Williams enters and takes a handoff for a short gainer.
  • Snap 11 - 3&5: Williams takes a handoff off the left side, could he have been more patient and cut it up for a first down? Regardless, Alabama misses a field goal after  salting away the clock.

19. Alabama just playing prevent as time fades away

The Tigers are in a tough spot as they're still down two scores. Alabama plays a bit off as time is the Crimson Tide's friend.

  • Snap 1 - 1&10: Garrett Nuessmeier steps up in the pocket and finds a receiver to get a little confidence going.
  • Snap 2 - 1&10: Nuessmeier finds Malik Nabers underneath for a short gain.
  • Snap 3 - 2&5: Nuessmeier finds Kyren Lacy on a short hitch route for a first down.
  • Snap 4 - 1&10: Terrion Arnold battles Nabers for a pass that turns up incomplete.
