The Alabama Crimson Tide won its SEC opener against Ole Miss on Saturday 24-10 thanks to a stellar effort on the defensive side of the football.

The Crimson Tide sacked Jaxson Dart five times on Saturday and were led by junior Dallas Turner.

Turner was named Bednarik Player of the Week for his efforts against the Rebels. He was credited with five tackles, three solos, two sacks, 3.5 tackles for a loss, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

"Dallas has always been a really good player for us. A guy who works hard in practice every day, tries to do everything he's coached to do. The team is important to him, he's been a good leader on the team," said Alabama head coach Nick Saban on Monday. "Sometimes you're fortunate to get sacks, sometimes you do a great job of affecting the quarterback and you don't get sacks. Affecting the quarterback is probably a more important stat than actually sacking the quarterback. And how we can do that as a group is really, really important."

Turner has 17 tackles, with 6.5 for a loss, 4.5 sacks, seven quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles through the season's first four weeks of action.

The pass rusher will be even more important going forward as the Crimson Tide appears to be without inside linebacker Deontae Lawson for a time as he deals with an ankle injury.

The Tide's next contest is Saturday, Sept. 30 against Mississippi State.
