Nick Saban Says Quarterbacks are Evaluated Every Week

In this story:
The Alabama Crimson Tide football program is soul-searching this week after suffering a 10-point home loss at the hands of the Texas Longhorns last Saturday.
The Crimson Tide made critical mistakes at numerous positions throughout the game but none were as glaring as quarterback Jalen Milroe's two interceptions which led to 10 Longhorns points.
Milroe has taken every crucial snap at quarterback for the Tide through the season's first two weeks, only yielding snaps to Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson in the waning moments of the season opener.
Will Alabama head coach Nick Saban reopen the quarterback competition after Milroe's rollercoaster performance against Texas?
"Well, we evaluate every position every week. If guys want security in their position they need to play well. Everybody on our team knows that," said Saban on the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday. "I think everybody's responded in a positive way to try to get better and to improve and we'll constantly evaluate that position as we do every other position."
Saban's vague answer may indicate that the job is Milroe's for the foreseeable future or it could foretell Buchner or Simpson's opportunity to make an impression during critical moments in the upcoming games.
The Tide has to feel a sense of urgency to find its best players as the season trudges on. SEC play is just around the corner with Ole Miss coming to Tuscaloosa next week, leaving just the South Florida matchup this weekend to experiment and set good habits to carry into the rest of the year.
Alabama kicks off against South Florida at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC on Saturday, Sept. 16.
