Alabama Gets Second Pledge in 2021 Class with Three-Star DT Anquin Barnes

The University of Alabama just landed its second commitment in the 2021 class with in-state three-star defensive tackle Anquin Barnes announcing on Twitter his pledge to the Crimson Tide on Friday afternoon.

He chose the Alabama over other finalists that included Auburn, Tennessee, Nebraska, Florida, and Georgia. Bama Central caught up with Barnes last month to discuss his most recent visit to Tuscaloosa after he received a scholarship offer.

"I was very excited when he called me into his office," Barnes said of when coach Nick Saban gave him the good news. "It meant a lot for Coach Saban to offer me. I was just so excited. They like how physical I am and how I use my hands."

Barnes' main recruiter was assistant Charles Kelly who kept in touch with him and his family on a regular and consistent basis.

"Alabama's message to me is that they have one of the best programs in the country," Barnes said. "They do what is best for the players and they do not mind going out of their way for their players."

Barnes is listed at 6-foot-5, 300 pounds and and recorded 55 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and six sacks a season ago. Per 247Sports, he is 611th best prospect nationally and 33rd best defensive tackle.

Bama Central recently featured Barnes on our most underrated prospects for this cycle last week. The Lee High School (Montgomery, Ala) standout now joins four-star linebacker Deontae Lawson as the two who make up the Crimson Tide's class for 2021.
