FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Sophomore pitcher Robyn Herron keeps the trend of dominant performances by Arkansas student-athletes this weekend.  Herron pitched a rare perfect game for the No. 14 Arkansas softball team in a 7-0 win over Indiana State.

The performance is only the Razorbacks’ second perfect game in program history. Herron, a Tampa, Fla., native, struck out nine of the 21 batters she faced tossing a no-hitter with no walks. On 86 pitches, she threw 60 strikes, forced five fly outs and one ground out.

She joins former Razorback great Mary Haff as the only pitchers to record perfect games.

Going into the series with Illinois State, the sophomore held a 3-3 record with a career-low 1.37 ERA through 30 and 2/3 innings pitched. Herron has struck out a total of 44 batters faced through Saturday’s victory.

Opponents are having a tough time getting hits off the Razorbacks star. Through seven games, teams have are averaging just two hits per game against the Sunshine State product.

Courtney Deifel’s team is off to a solid 12-3 start overall. The Razorbacks have notable victories over Michigan State and Arizona to start the season.

Herron’s perfect game follows a pair of impressive outings from two other Arkansas sports this weekend. Hagen Smith unpacked frustration upon No. 7 Oregon State Friday night by striking out 17 batters on 78 pitches through six innings. Smith’s 17 punchouts tied a Razorback school record.

The Razorbacks did allow the Beavers to crawl back into it by the ninth inning. However, a go-ahead RBI triple by Greenwood’s Peyton Holt helped the Hogs score of 5-4 victory.

Then, Khalif Battle experienced a career-best performance against Missouri during a Saturday matinee. His 42 points were the most scored by a Razorback since Todd Day dumped 43 against LSU in 1992.
