Auburn is losing one of their best defensive backs to the transfer portal.

Keionte Scott, the Tigers' starting STAR in the defensive backfield, has entered the transfer portal, per Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Scott spent two seasons at Auburn after transferring in from Snow College.

Over the course of 22 games, Scott recorded 97 tackles, six tackles for loss, and one interception.

With Scott expected to depart, the Tigers are losing a large majority of their defensive backfield. Five of the ten cornerbacks that recorded a snap for Auburn in 2023 are gone. Three of the nine safeties are gone.

The departures of Scott, DJ James, Nehemiah Pritchett, Zion Puckett, Jaylin Simpson, and Keionte Scott, leave the cupboard pretty bare for 2024. Auburn is going to have to develop a lot of young talent quickly, or get some players in from the transfer portal fast.

The news surrounding Scott broke the same day Auburn fired offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery.

“I informed Philip today he would not be retained as our offensive coordinator,” coach Hugh Freeze said in a statement. “Philip is a good coach and a good man. Decisions like this are never easy, however, I decided this is best for our program moving forward. I’m appreciative of his efforts this past year and wish him nothing but the best.”
