Boston College men’s basketball is losing its second player to the transfer portal.

Eagles guard Luka Toews is entering his name into the portal, according to a report from The Field of 68’s Jeff Goodman.

“Boston College sophomore Luka Toews will enter the transfer portal, he told @TheFieldOf68,” said Goodman via X. “The 6-1 guard Toews averaged 6.3 points per game this past season for the Eagles.”

The Tokyo, Japan, native spent two seasons in Chestnut Hill. During that time frame, he appeared in 53 games and averaged 15.6 minutes, 4.2 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.

During Boston College’s 11-20 campaign this past season, Toews had a breakout season as the sophomore saw time in 29 games, which included 20 starts, and averaged 21.4 minutes, 6.3 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

The move comes just one day after new Boston College men’s basketball head coach Luke Murray held his introductory press conference.  Murray was announced as the Eagles’ next head coach on March 26. He replaces Earl Grant who was fired on March 8 after five seasons with the program.

In the presser, Murray shared his vision for the program’s future as well as what the players are looking for as well.

“We're going to be a very tough and competitive and hungry basketball team and we're going to be prepared above all else,” said Murray. “When BC takes the floor as a fan, as a supporter, as someone in the administration, an alumni, you're going to be able to have the confidence that the team that takes the court is prepared for competition. And that's going to be our focus every single day is to be as tough and competitive and as hardworking as any group in the country.

“And I met with a lot of the guys yesterday on the team and one of the sort of messages that kept coming up was an ability to really play for the front of the uniform,” said Murray. “I know that can sound a little bit cliche and it's hard to do in sort of the climate that we're in right now in college athletics is to really put that at the forefront, but if I've learned anything from Coach Hurley, I think that's been the most impressive thing.”

Toews is the second Boston College player that is planning to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Freshman guard Akbar Waheed III is also entering the portal.
