Charlotte Transfer Aly Khalifa Commits to BYU Basketball

Aly Khalifa is one of the most entertaining big men in college basketball

The BYU basketball program has landed its first transfer portal commitment of the offseason. On Sunday, Charlotte transfer Aly Khalifa committed to BYU and head coach Mark Pope. Khalifa, who is listed at 6'11, is a native of Alexandria, Egypt.

Khalifa has two seasons of eligibility remaining, and he is arguably the best passing big man in college basketball. It is his passing ability that stands out most when you turn on his film. Khalifa was also a proficient scorer for Charlotte, averaging 11.7 points per game last season on 51% shooting from the floor. He shot 38% from three while adding 6.3 rebounds per game last year. You can check out his highlights below.

Khalifa's skillset is a perfect fit a BYU offense that consistently asks the frontcourt to set screens and make passes on the perimeter. Khalifa fills two needs for BYU: size and ability to create offense. BYU's frontcourt was undersized last season. Khalifa will give BYU a starting-caliber big man with good size at 6'11. His passing ability will also create opportunities for his teammates, something that BYU lacked at times last season.

Going into its first season in the Big 12, BYU needed starting-caliber talent from the transfer portal. That is exactly what Khalifa will bring to BYU. With Khalifa in the fold, BYU will likely start Khalifa alongside Fousseyni Traore in the frontcourt next season. With Khalifa on board, BYU has one more scholarship to use in the transfer portal.
