BYU’s Offense Shows Off Big-Play Potential in First Fall Scrimmage

The BYU football program wrapped up the first scrimmage of Fall Camp on Saturday. According to members of the program, the offense won the day. The BYU offense was good, but not elite, at generating explosive plays a year ago. The Cougars ranked 25th nationally in explosive play rate.

That's one area where they are hoping to improve in 2026. If Saturday's scrimmage is any indication, the offense is well on their way. A handful of explosive touchdowns by the offense headlined Saturday's highlights. The full highlights can be viewed at the top of this article.

Bear Bachmeier Finds Reggie Frischknecht

Downfield passing, in particular, is one area where Bear Bachmeier could improve the most in 2026. Bachmeier has shown signs of improvement throughout camp, and that continued on Saturday. Bachmeier dropped back and found a wide open Reggie Frischknecht for a long touchdown.

Frischknecht got open and Bachmeier hit him in stride.

Devaughn Eka Runs Away from the Defense

The running backs behind LJ Martin are a question mark going into 2026. LJ Martin was held out of the live portions of the scrimmage. After all, there's nothing Martin needs to show in a scrimmage setting, so the priority is to keep him healthy. That created opportunities for the running backs behind Martin and they capitalized.

True freshman Devaughn Eka got to the edge, broke a tackle, then ran away from the defense for a long score.

Kalani Sitake also highlighted Preston Rex after the scrimmage. Rex had a few nice runs, including this touchdown run.

Bear Bachmeier Finds Kyler Kasper

Kyler Kasper can be a weapon for BYU's offense, particularly in the redzone. Kasper is all of 6'6 and he has excellent vertical ability. Bachmeier put a ball up high where only Kasper could grab it for the score.

Bachmeier was dealing in the redzone. He also found LJ Martin running a wheel route for a touchdown.

BYU Backup Quarterbacks

The BYU backup quarterbacks had a nice day as well. Treyson Bourguet connected with Tiger Bachmeier twice, one of which resulted in a touchdown. Bourguet has had a nice camp - we project him to be the backup at this point.

Enoch Watson is a true freshman quarterback that returned home from his mission last fall. Watson has flashed a lot of potential as a true freshman. On Saturday, Watson found tight end Noah Moeaki for a touchdown.
