Look: Bob Huggins, West Virginia Release Statements Following Coach's Use of Homophobic Slur During Radio Interview

Huggins landed on the slur multiple times during his 700 WLW interview.

CINCINNATI — UC basketball coaching legend and current West Virginia head basketball coach Bob Huggins released a statement following his use of a homophobic slur while on the air with 700 WLW.

UPDATE: West Virginia has also released a statement saying the situation is under review.

Huggins used the slur during an interview with 700 WLW's Bill Cunningham.

Steve Norris first reported the discussion as the two reminisced on an incident during one of the Crosstown Shootouts Huggins coached in.

UC's all-time winningest head coach said Xavier players wouldn't transfer to West Virginia because "Catholics don't do that." He then used the slur to describe Xavier.

Huggins: “Any school that can throw rubber penises on the floor and then say they didn’t do it, by god they can get away with anything.”

Cunningham: “I think it was transgender night wasn’t it?”

Huggins: “It was a Crosstown Shootout, yea, no, what it was, was all those f***, those Catholic f***, I think.”

Cunningham: “All right.”

Huggins: “They were envious they didn’t have one.”

Huggins just got inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and is one of the winningest coaches in CBB history.

He won 398 games with the Bearcats from 1990-05
