The Athletic's Nate Tice Praises Josh Whyle Ahead of 2023 NFL Draft

Cincinnati should see its NFL Draft success rolling this coming weekend.

CINCINNATI — Around five to six UC football players should get drafted to the NFL this weekend and one of them is tight end Josh Whyle. The Bearcats record holder for career touchdowns by a tight end could go off the board early on Day 3.

The Athletic's Nate Tice thinks he can be a surprise contributor out of this class.

"I really see him more as a fourth round, late third maybe," Tice said on The Athletic Football Show. "A fluid mover, body control. He's long. ... He has like sub-32-inch arms, which is always a weird makeup when you look at a guy, but just I really like how fluid he is as an athlete. Like he can isolate. They isolated him, he's catching fade balls in the red zone. He's good on the move like overs and flats and crossers where he's just running away from defenders.

"I don't think he's a good blocker. ... I'd say he's average. But he improved even from last year to this year. He improved greatly. So I just think he's adequate. As far as play strength again, he's long he's barely 250 (pounds), But I do think there's something there. Just as far as an athlete mindset improving you want to see these guys just improve year after year, especially at this position. That's the guy I'd take a flyer on."

Whyle is the consensus 156th-ranked player in the class and the eighth-best tight end.

He should go off the board in the fourth or fifth round this coming weekend. Check out the full comments around the hour and five minute mark.
