Scott Satterfield, Brad Glenn on Emory Jones Ahead of Fall Camp: 'I Think he Will be That Triple Threat Guy'

Cincinnati starts Fall Camp this week.

CINCINNATI — UC football head coach Scott Satterfield and offensive coordinator Brad Glenn dove into their new-look offense on Tuesday, particularly a quarterback room led by Emory Jones.

Jones is the projected starter ahead of Brady Drogosh and Brady Lichtenberg, entering fall camp this week.

"They have to be able to take care of the football," Satterfield emphasized. "We have to be able to take care of the football to me that's the most important thing that they (quarterbacks) have to do is take care of the football and then you know, I want those guys that have that competitive fight that is gonna lead that offense to get first downs, touchdowns."

The position has evolved heavily this century, especially in college and the NFL. The teams with the best quarterbacks in the country typically at least compete for conference championships if not national titles.

Jones should be set up to succeed in a system built around him as opposed to what he dealt with at Arizona State in 2022.

He only had a 2.7% turnover-worthy play mark in 2022, but that number was up to 4% and 5.6% the previous two seasons at Florida. He combined for 14 interceptions (13 in 2021) over that time.

"He's got a ton of experience," Glenn said about what sets Jones apart in this room. "He's been around a long time. He's obviously the dual threat, you know, that we're looking for, Coach Satterfield and myself. We've had tons of success with dual-threat guys and now you can take it a step further. And you know, everybody says they want the dual threat quarterback or a triple threat, you know, the guy that can beat you with his arm with his legs and then with his mind, and you know. Emory learning the offense, learning how we operate and do things as a staff that's something he spent a lot of time on in the spring and summer. He's still learning the playbook and getting comfortable with it, but he's got a great football IQ and once he knows it like the back of his hand. I think he will be that triple threat guy."

Jones has the daunting responsibility of rowing an offense with potentially 11 new starts in the same direction in a month.
