UC Tight End Chamon Metayer Discusses Player Meeting During Bye Week: 'We Got to do This as a Team'

Cincinnati is working hard to turn around its rough stretch.

CINCINNATI — UC tight end Chamon Metayer is trying to parlay his career-best game against BYU into some great showings the rest of the season. He joined Dominick Goodman and me on Bercat Blitz this week and touched on how the team is addressing their 2-3 record.

It's unseen territory for plenty of names on the roster as UC football goes through its first three-game losing streak this decade.

"So like a group of guys me, Malik (Vann) Jowon Briggs, Dontay (Corleone) Emory (Jones), we all had a sit-down and we just been trying to figure out ways to get it going," Metayer noted. "Everybody was just like, it's adversity, it's gonna come throughout the season, every Saturday we play we're gonna see adversity. It's just about how we go into the week. How we respond as a team. It can't be too many individuals. We got to do this as a team, like this is a team game. If one person messes up anything, now the whole play is just dead. So it takes all 11 to get things going on both sides."

Cincinnati has moved the ball as well as the best offenses in the country, entering Week 6 with the 13th-most first downs nationally (127).

Yet they've scored TDs on just 42.9% of their red zone trips (126th nationally). That's getting worked on during the bye week, among other items.

"My motto is no days off," Metayer said. "So every time we go on the practice field, I'm gonna hit it 100%. Resting will come later. Coaches know they'll take care of us when it's time to take care of us. So my motto to everybody is just keep going out there and working. Don't get lackadaisical out there. Once you do that, your path gets bounced off. So it's just find a way to stay in rhythm throughout the whole week."

Metayer just had a career-high in catches (three), receiving yards (59), and touchdowns (two) against BYU.
