Report: Big 12 Plans Multiple Events in Mexico Over Next Few Years

CINCINNATI — Get ready to sharpen your Spanish-speaking skills, Bearcats fans.

ESPN's Pete Thamel reports that the Big 12 is "mulling" a new Mexico-based bowl game played in Monterrey. The bowl would start up in the 2026 postseason.

Basketball is getting a Mexican flare as well. Both the Houston and Kansas men's and women's basketball programs have agreed to play each other in Mexico City in Dec. 2024.

"Big 12 teams are also expected to play exhibition games against local teams in both women's soccer and baseball," Thamel wrote. "The bowl game is expected to be the first postseason one in Mexico between two American college football teams."

The Big 12 is making a push as the first major conference to find inroads south of the border. Commissioner Brett Yormark has brought plenty of interesting ideas to the table during his short tenure and this is the latest one.
