UC Basketball Slotted 10th in ESPN's Roster Retention Ranking

CINCINNATI — The dust from college basketball's transfer portal has settled, and the Bearcats emerged as a winner. ESPN's Jeff Borzello ranked UC 10th on his assessment of roster retention across all of college basketball.

"Wes Miller had a strong offseason in the portal," Borzello wrote. "Losing only one total start from last season to transfer. Mike Saunders played a consistent role, and Abdul Ado was a senior starter, but the Bearcats bring back four starters."

Funny enough, the Bearcats didn't even technically lose Ado from the program. The big man just joined Cincinnati's coaching staff as a graduate assistant.

Miller did lose the likes of Mason Madsen and Mike Saunders to Boston College and Utah, but many view their replacements (Rob Phinisee/Landers Nolley) as net upgrades.

Toss in big man Kalu Ezikpe coming over from Old Dominion, and you get a nice building block summer for a program hungry to return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019.
