Houston Christian EDGE Jalyx Hunt Making History At 2024 Senior Bowl

Houston Christian EDGE Jalyx Hunt already made history by being the first player in school history to be invited to the Senior Bowl.

Hunt started his career at Cornell as a safety but transferred after three seasons with the Big Red. He made the move to EDGE at Houston Christian and immediately made an impact for the Huskies.

Over two seasons at HCU, Hunt recorded 133 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, one interception, five pass breakups, five forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He earned FCS All-American honors last season from multiple publications and was named the Southland Defensive Player of the Year.

Hunt spoke with Zach McKinnell of FCS Football Central about his journey from Cornell to Houston Christian at the Senior Bowl this week.

"I really just started growing late," Hunt said. "I got to Cornell, at first I was 195. If you want to play with the big boys, you got to get bigger so I just automatically gained weight off of eating and lifting weights being in a college program. Got up to 235 when I transferred and when I transferred my coach thought I'd be better playing that outside linebacker, EDGE position."

Hunt Is Playing With A Chip On His Shoulder

"I don't feel as if I need to prove I belong here... I know I belong here," Hunt said. "I know it's definitely a question from people like, 'Oh you played FCS ball,' so the chip is big... The chip is there. I'm just like everyone else who's from the FCS here.

"A lot of us were overlooked going into college and our college experiences that's why we didn't go into big-time FBS, but we knew we could play at that level, we just didn't have the resources and whatnot. So to be here and show that just like everybody else, y'all got to deal with us too, it means a lot."

Hunt has only played the edge rusher position for two seasons, which makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in the NFL Draft. Despite his lack of his experience at the position, Hunt is generating plenty of interest among NFL teams this week in Mobile.

"We're talking to all 32 (teams) this week. I have 16 requested interviews, so I'm excited to get through those," Hunt said. "We had eight yesterday and we going to have eight more today, so I'm excited to continue those conversations."
