The offseason is still in its early stages but there has been a ton of activity in Tallahassee since the calendar flipped to 2024. Once again, Florida State has built a top class in the NCAA Transfer Portal after some misses at the beginning of the cycle.

The Seminoles will be bringing in nearly 40 new faces and they might make a couple more additions during the next transfer window. The 2024 class currently includes 22 high school signees and 15 transfers which means 43.5% of the roster will be entering their first year with the program.

Let's take a look at where the projected scholarship numbers stand leading up to spring practice.

Ahead of spring practice, Florida State is projected to be well over the 85 scholarship limit. While teams can be above the limit during the offseason, it's clear that the Seminoles are going to need to shed a couple of players over the next few months. This is particularly tricky after NCAA penalties that require the program to operate without the usage of five total scholarships over the next two years.

FSU has added experience through the portal but over 60% of the roster is still projected to be underclassmen (freshmen or sophomores) entering the 2024 season. The Seminoles are banking on a couple of young players with high potential to take the next step and that will start during the spring.

The recent additions have shored up depth at key positions on the roster such as defensive end, linebacker, running back, and along the offensive line. Florida State still has a need at tight end but that will be addressed in a couple of months after the current room gets a chance to go through practice.
