Former FSU Tight End Released By Los Angeles Rams During Roster Cutdowns

In this story:
There are a lot of roster moves being made around the NFL with teams being forced to cut down to 53 players on August 29. That's going to leave plenty of quality talents on the outside looking in ahead of the regular season. Some players will still land on practice squads while others will enter the year without a place to call home.

The Los Angeles Chargers cut a multitude of players on Monday. The crop of players being released included former Florida State tight end Camren McDonald. The undrafted rookie free agent didn't end up making a catch during the preseason while also contributing in a large role on special teams.
This is the second time that McDonald has been released this month. He originally joined the Green Bay Packers after going undrafted in April during the 2023 NFL Draft. The Packers cut McDonald a couple of weeks ago, paving way for him to return closer to home during his stint with the Rams.
There's a chance that a franchise brings in McDonald on a practice squad spot once waivers and 53-man rosters are finalized in the next couple of days. His versatility and ability to play on special teams could be alluring for certain teams around the league.

McDonald spent five years in Tallahassee after signing with the program under former head coach Willie Taggart as part of a crop of West Coast Noles. He was a reserve during his first two years with the Seminoles but became a regular in the rotation after Mike Norvell took over in 2020. During his final three years with the program, McDonald appeared in 34 games, with 30 starts, catching 68 passes for 818 yards and five touchdowns.
In total, McDonald compiled 74 catches for 861 yards and five touchdowns during his career in garnet and gold.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound intrigued NFL teams during his performance at the Tropical Bowl and NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. A pulled hamstring while attempting a 40-yard dash during Florida State's Pro Day set McDonald back during the draft process.
