Defenses Shine in Bulldogs' G-Day Scrimmage

Points were at a premium for Saturday's G-Day Scrimmage as the black and red team finished with a 20-20 tie.

The Georgia Bulldogs completed their annual inter-squad scrimmage this Saturday as the red team tied with the black team by a score of 20-20. As expected from a spring scrimmage, there were a handful of promising and alarming moments from the Bulldogs roster, but it was the defense that shined in Saturday’s scrimmage.

Quarterbacks Carson Beck and Gunner Stockton completed their days with decent numbers. Carson Beck completed 25 of his 46 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns but did throw two interceptions, including a tipped from Mykel Williams in the red zone. Beck did look extremely impressive in the fourth quarter and led the red team down the field to score the game tying touchdown. Gunner Stockton finished his day 23 of 37 for 246 yards and a touchdown. Stockton also had some impressive moments, including a deep strike to Anthony Evans in the first half.

Linebackers Raylen Wilson and CJ Allen stood out in a major way. Wilson led both teams with an impressive eight total tackles while Allen recorded five tackles and intercepted a Carson Beck pass just before the end of the first half.

While the lack of offensive production may be alarming for Georgia fans, the wide receiver group stood out in a big way. Players such as Dominic Lovett, Colbie Young, and Anthony Evans all turned in major performances with Young and Lovett catching impressive redzone touchdowns.

The Bulldogs will continue to prepare for their 2024 season and will not return to action in Sanford stadium until their home opener against Tennessee Tech on September 7th.
