Former Bulldog Says Georgia's Offensive Line Could Be the Program's Best Ever

Georgia has a ton of talent returning on the offensive line, and former starting center Ben Jones is excited about what he's seen from the unit so far.

With Amarius Mims and Sedrick Van Pran-Granger off to the NFL, Georgia has a couple of holes to fill on the offensive line. While most teams would likely take a step back when losing a starting offensive tackle and starting center, the Bulldogs have a chance to be even stronger up front, at least according to another former lineman.

Pro Bowl center Ben Jones, who started at center for Georgia from 2008-2011 and spent 11 seasons in the NFL, feels the version of the Georgia offensive line has a chance to be among the best to come through Athens.

"This is going to be the best Georgia o-line that we've had," said Jones in an interview with former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and running back Knowshon Moreno. "Sed [Van Pran-Granger] was a great leader, but [Jared] Wilson is an athletic freak at center, a 4.8 [in the 40-yard dash] kinda guy. He is special".

That's special praise for Wilson from a guy who started in the NFL for over a decade. Jones wasn't done bragging about Wilson, raving about the abilities of the former three-star recruit out of North Carolina.

"Last year, going out and helping in camp and the spring. Jared [Wilson] was a guy who was picking my brain, picking Sed's brain. His main thing was 'Hey, how do I be a leader? How do I make these calls?', and getting another year behind Sed [in 2023], learning that... like last year, me and Sed would sit there and talk once a week. He was like 'This guy is a freak athlete. He's better than me.' and it just comes with the role. Sed was a better leader, he could make every call, and [Jared Wilson] got another year to learn from that."

So, if Wilson has center locked down, who does Ben Jones believe will make up the rest of Georgia's starting offensive line?

"Then you got to think; [Amarius] Mims was out - Mims was an absolute stud - but [Xavier] Truss held it down out there at tackle and everybody else is still there. They still got Big Tate [Ratledge], we got [Dylan] Fairchild, and [Earnest Greene] is not a freshman anymore, our left tackle. I am excited."
