Kirby Smart Calls Georgia's 2025 Home Schedule "Probably the Best" in Program History

Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, LSU, etc. Georgia is no stranger to hosting big games, but 2025's home schedule may be the best in the program's storied history.

If you thought Georgia football season tickets were expensive before, you'll be in for a shock when the university unveils its prices for the 2025 season. The SEC recently announced its 2025 football schedule. For Georgia, the opponents will look very similar to 2024's but with some of the bigger teams coming to Athens.

Georgia will play SEC home games against Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Kentucky, as well as non-conference games against Austin Peay and Charlotte. With Texas and Alabama currently among the nation's elite and Ole Miss and Kentucky as programs on the rise, this is one of the better home schedules for Georgia since the sport went to 12 regular season games in the early 2000s. According to Georgia head coach Kirby Smart, it may be the best home slate in program history.

Georgia plays at Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Kentucky in 2024. In his Tuesday press conference, Smart was asked if he liked having to turn around and play all of those tough programs again.

"I just got one of the toughest road schedules in the country. I'd like to see it flipped or I got the opportunity for our fan base to have probably the best home schedule ever in Georgia history."

It's hard to say if Smart is right about that last statement. The Bainbridge native and former Bulldogs safety has as good of a grasp of Georgia football history as anyone, but Georgia has played some elite schedules. What makes this one intriguing - and perhaps the "best" - is the unique opponents. Sure, Georgia just hosted Kentucky and Ole Miss this past season, but they haven't played Texas in the regular season since 1958 and never in Athens. Plus, anytime Alabama comes to Sanford Stadium is a big deal.

Time will tell how good this slate is going to be. Texas could be coming in with Arch Manning as the starting quarterback. That alone could bump the 2025 schedule to the top of the all-time list. 2014 included home games against No. 16 Clemson, Tennessee, No. 9 Auburn, and No. 16 Georgia Tech. 2018 was probably the hottest ticket with No. 7 Notre Dame heading to Athens, but with No. 24 Texas A&M as the only other ranked team on the home schedule, it just doesn't compare to the 2025 slate.
