Georgia Tech Baseball Tops Lipscomb 10-5

Georgia Tech Baseball is now 11-2 after their win over Lipscomb today.
After losing their first series of the season against Georgia, the Yellow Jackets were back in action today against Lipscomb in a midweek matchup before ACC play begins this weekend.
Tech did take the final game from the Bulldogs on Sunday but had a disappointing result overall. They were looking to get their offense back to working today and hope to keep pitching well, as they did on Sunday.
A bit of good news today for GT is that Drew Compton is back in the lineup and will be at third base today. Compton hit on Sunday, but he is officially back in the lineup.
Dalton Smith was the starting pitcher for the Yellow Jackets today and here is how they lined up:
1. CF- Jake DeLeo
2. IF- Angelo Dispigna
3. RF- Stephen Reid
4. DH- Jack Rubenstein
5. 3B- Drew Compton
6. 1B- Jackson Finley
7. 2B-Nicholas Romano
8. SS- Nico Senese
9. C- Tyler Minnick
Things did not start well for the Yellow Jackets though.
Smith gave up a leadoff home run and Lipscomb was leading the game 1-0. Smith worked through the rest of the inning, but Georgia Tech has to better limit home runs more consistently.
Georgia Tech's offense did get two on base but left the first inning trailing 1-0.
After a quick out to start the inning, Smith gave up another solo home and the Bisons led 2-0. Smith gave up a hit, but nothing came of it and we went to the bottom of the 2nd.
This is where the Yellow Jackets' offense started doing dome damage. Finley had a leadoff double to start things off and then a Romano single scored Finley to make it 2-1. Senese would then strike out, but Minnick reached on a single to give Georgia Tech two baserunners. DeLeo came up to bat and blasted a three-run homer to put Georgia Tech in front 4-2. Dispigna then singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch and that led to an RBI from Rubenstein to make it five runs in the inning for Georgia Tech.
Smith returned for the third inning and things got a little tense for Georgia Tech when Lipscomb got runners on the corners, but no runs were scored.
GT continued to add to the lead in the bottom of the third. Finley singled and then Romano walked giving Tech two on with no outs. Senese hit a sac bunt to advance the runners and then Minnick hit an RBI single to make it 6-2. An RBI from Dispigna made it 7-2 and it started to feel like a blowout was imminent.
Jackson Vaughan replaced Smith at the start of the fourth inning. He gave up two hits, but no runs in his first inning pitched.
Rubenstein was hit by a pitch and then Compton hit a double to move Rubenstein to third and have two runners on. Finley singled to drive Rubenstein in and make it 8-2 and then Compton came home on a fielders choice to make it 9-2.
Vaughan did have a rough fifth inning. A leadoff homer gave Lipscomb another run and then a couple of singles gave them two more base runners and one of them scored off of an error to make it 9-4.
After a scoreless bottom of the fifth, Aeden Finateri came in to relieve Vaughan and he got a 1-2-3 inning to start.
From there on, the bats got pretty quiet on both sides. Noah Samol came in the 7th for GT and got through it rather easily, as he also did in the 8th.
Mannelly did come in to pitch the 9th for GT
Lipscomb scored one more run and that was that. Georgia Tech finished the game out and will now wait to begin ACC play on Friday against Notre Dame.
DeLeo and Romano led the way behind the plate, each with multiple RBI's. Finateri and Samol were solid in relief and did not give up any runs.
Next game up for Georgia Tech is on Friday at home against Notre Dame. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
